Our standards

Ethics in
every frame.

How we work matters just as much as what we create.

The Camera Guys provides professional video production, photography and creative content for businesses, organisations, events and individuals across the UK. Wherever we're working, we aim to approach every production with respect, honesty, care and professional judgement.

Our principles are simple: treat people properly, represent them fairly, protect the material entrusted to us and never let getting the shot become more important than the people involved.

How we work

Good work starts
with good judgement.

A camera gives you the ability to shape how people, businesses and events are seen. We take that responsibility seriously.

Our approach is built around four basic principles.

  1. 01

    Respect people

The people in front of the camera are people first, not simply content.

We aim to create an environment where contributors understand what is being filmed, feel comfortable taking part and are treated professionally throughout the production.

  2. 02

    Represent fairly

Editing is powerful. It can clarify a story, but it can also change its meaning.

We won't knowingly edit an interview, testimonial or documentary-style contribution in a way that materially misrepresents what somebody said or intended.

  3. 03

    Protect what we're given

Productions can involve confidential conversations, private locations, unreleased products, internal information and footage that was never intended for public use.

We treat client material and personal information with appropriate care and only use content in accordance with the permissions and agreements surrounding the project.

  4. 04

    Work responsibly

Professional production involves more than cameras.

Planning, safety, privacy, copyright, location rules, drone regulations, environmental impact and the welfare of everyone involved are all part of doing the job properly.

People first

Respect in front of
and behind the camera.

Professional videography and photography often means working with people who are not professional presenters or performers.

Some people love being filmed. Others don't.

We aim to make shoots relaxed, organised and respectful, giving contributors clear direction without putting unnecessary pressure on them.

That includes taking reasonable care around:

  • informed participation and consent
  • personal boundaries
  • sensitive or emotional subjects
  • cultural and individual differences
  • accessibility requirements
  • people who may be nervous or unfamiliar with filming
  • children and vulnerable people
  • private workplaces and homes

Where a production involves children, vulnerable adults or particularly sensitive environments, we will work with the client and relevant organisation to understand the permissions, supervision and safeguarding requirements that apply before filming begins.

We don't believe getting stronger footage justifies making somebody unnecessarily uncomfortable.

Authentic representation

Tell the story.
Don't distort it.

Every edit involves choices.

What gets included, what gets removed, the order of an interview, the music underneath it and even the images placed alongside somebody's words can change how a viewer interprets them.

Creative editing is part of our job. Deliberately creating a false impression is not.

When producing interviews, testimonials, case studies, corporate films and documentary-style content, we aim to preserve the genuine meaning and context of what contributors tell us.

That doesn't mean every pause, repetition or twenty-minute answer has to survive the edit. It means the finished film shouldn't knowingly make somebody appear to say something materially different from what they actually meant.

For staged, scripted, fictional or advertising content, the creative nature of the production will naturally be different — but we still expect the underlying claims supplied for publication to be lawful and responsible.

Privacy & consent

Some things shouldn't
end up on camera.

Filming frequently takes us into offices, homes, schools, venues, workplaces and operational sites where the camera can capture far more than the intended subject.

We take reasonable steps to avoid unnecessarily recording sensitive information and to respect restrictions identified by the client or location.

This may include:

  • confidential documents and computer screens
  • personal information
  • private conversations
  • restricted areas
  • members of the public
  • children
  • commercially sensitive material
  • unreleased products or projects

Where appropriate, we can also work around filming permissions, release requirements, restricted areas and specific client confidentiality requirements.

Personal information submitted to The Camera Guys is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Editing, VFX & artificial intelligence

Creative tools.
Human responsibility.

Video production has always involved manipulation.

Editing changes timing. Colour grading changes appearance. Retouching removes distractions. Visual effects create things that weren't physically present. Artificial intelligence has simply introduced another set of creative tools.

We are comfortable using modern production technology where it genuinely improves the work — but we believe there is an important difference between creative enhancement and deception.

Our approach to AI

We may use AI-assisted tools during parts of the creative or production process, including tasks such as ideation, research, transcription, image processing, editing assistance, visual effects and other production workflows.

Where synthetic or substantially AI-generated imagery is used in finished client work, we consider the context, intended audience and possibility of misleading viewers.

We won't knowingly create deceptive material that falsely presents a real person as saying or doing something consequential that they did not say or do.

We also won't knowingly use AI to fabricate a genuine client testimonial, documentary event or business result.

For creative, fictional, conceptual or clearly illustrative work, AI-generated elements may be entirely appropriate.

The important question is not simply:

“Was AI used?”

It's:

“Could the way it was used materially mislead somebody?”

That's the standard we aim to apply.

Responsible production

Professional behind
the scenes, too.

The finished film may be what everybody sees. The way it was produced matters as well.

Safety

We plan shoots with reasonable consideration for the location, crew, contributors, equipment and activity taking place around us.

No photograph or video clip is important enough to justify obviously reckless behaviour.

Drone operations

Where aerial filming is involved, drone work is planned around the applicable operating restrictions, location, weather, people and surrounding environment.

If a flight cannot be carried out safely or lawfully, we won't fly simply because it was part of the original plan.

Environment

Production inevitably uses equipment, power, travel and physical resources. We don't claim that filmmaking has zero environmental impact.

Instead, we try to make sensible production decisions where practical — including efficient scheduling, combining deliverables into the same shoot, reducing unnecessary journeys and making effective use of footage captured during a production.

Our one shoot, multiple deliverables approach can also reduce the need for clients to organise repeated filming days simply to create different versions of closely related content.

Locations

Whether we're filming in an office, venue, private property, public space or outdoor environment, we aim to leave locations as we found them and respect any reasonable rules or restrictions applying to the site.

Working with clients

Collaborative doesn't mean
saying yes to everything.

Our job is to help clients create effective content.

Sometimes that means recommending a different approach.

If we believe an idea creates a serious safety, privacy, legal or ethical problem, we'll raise it rather than simply pointing the camera and hoping for the best.

Equally, clients know their organisations, audiences and industries better than we do.

Good production is collaborative. We bring filmmaking and production expertise; our clients bring their subject knowledge, objectives and responsibilities.

The strongest work usually comes from combining both.

Our commitment

The standard
we set ourselves.

We won't pretend every situation has an obvious answer.

Creative production regularly involves judgement calls.

But wherever possible, we aim to:

  1. Be honest

About what we can deliver, how we're approaching the project and anything that could materially affect it.

  2. Be respectful

To clients, contributors, crew, venues and members of the public.

  3. Be fair

In the way real people and genuine events are represented.

  4. Be careful

With private information, sensitive footage and material entrusted to us.

  5. Be responsible

About safety, copyright, drone operations and the practical impact of production.

  6. Be transparent

Where creative techniques could otherwise create a materially misleading impression.

  7. Be accountable

If something goes wrong, address it rather than pretend it didn't happen.

Have a concern?

Tell us.

If you have a concern about footage we've created, the way a production was conducted, privacy, representation, copyright or anything else connected with our work, we'd rather know about it.

We'll review genuine concerns and respond appropriately based on the circumstances.
