The first film we produced for London hip-hop collective New Guardz: a compact performance shoot that took the group from London to Bournemouth Pier for a bright, communal summer video.

THE BOOKING

A LONDON ENQUIRY WITH A COASTAL PLAN

New Guardz approached The Camera Guys while looking for a London-based videographer for their forthcoming single “30 Degrees”. It was the beginning of a longer creative relationship and the first video we made together.

The track is built around the rare heat of a British summer, so the group planned a day trip rather than a conventional city performance. We travelled to Bournemouth and centred the shoot on the pier, beach and surrounding seafront.

The job was booked for one videographer and completed in roughly three to four hours. That short window made preparation, movement between setups and clear performance hand-offs more important than a large equipment package.

THE APPROACH

FAST, SOCIAL
AND SUNLIT

Shared performance

Seven voices were staged as one group, with the current verse always clear and the rest of the collective active behind it.

Location variety

The pier, sand, promenade, transport and skyline supplied distinct looks without consuming the schedule with long company moves.

Available light

Direct sun, late-day warmth and open coastal space became part of the visual identity rather than something to disguise.

Compact coverage

Reliable group takes were followed by close, low and moving angles that gave the edit enough variation within a short shoot.

SEVEN PERFORMERS

MAKING EACH VERSE READ IMMEDIATELY

“30 Degrees” features Flowtecs, K Zorro, Mas Law, Ray Vendetta, Tommy Biz, Allstar Stacks and Venom Spitter over production by Session600. The film needed to introduce individual performers without losing the feeling of a day out together.

Lead verses were brought close to camera while other members stayed present in depth, reacted to lines and moved through the frame. Wider group images reset the geography; portraits and low angles then gave each hand-off its own emphasis.

This approach made the collective itself part of the location. The pier and beach provided the backdrop, but the energy came from the way the group occupied it.

THE SHOOT

A THREE-HOUR WINDOW THAT STILL FEELS EXPANSIVE

With one videographer and a large performing group, the schedule could not depend on resetting complex lighting or rebuilding every composition. Each area needed to produce several useful angles quickly.

The camera moved between full-group coverage, individual verses, travel moments and smaller interactions. Repeating a few visual rules—direct address, loose formations and movement towards the lens—made very different frames feel connected.

The van and promenade material also gave the edit transitions between the major beach performances. Those in-between moments helped the film feel like a journey rather than a collection of isolated setups.
