The guidance
Show the person supporting the activity in relation to the group. Seeing where help comes from can make an unfamiliar session feel easier to understand.

PHOTOGRAPHY / OXFORD
A question shared. A task taking shape. The person helping it make sense. Oxford photography for organisations that want to show what participation looks like.
Hive Kids · commissioned activity photography from our wider portfolio. Not an Oxford school or university commission.
PHOTOGRAPHS WITH A PURPOSE
A programme description can explain the subject. Photographs can help a prospective participant understand the experience: working together, handling materials, asking for help or trying something independently. We photograph learning activities and workshops for Oxford organisations with that practical question in mind.
The brief starts with the session, not a list of buildings to use as a backdrop. Who is learning, what will they actually do, and which part of the activity can be photographed without changing it? A useful set makes the programme easier to understand while respecting the people taking part.
HIVE KIDS / COMMISSIONED ACTIVITY PHOTOGRAPHY
Our Hive Kids commission included dedicated activity photography and staff headshots alongside video. These photographs show participants concentrating, collaborating and receiving guidance. They are examples from our wider portfolio, not evidence of an Oxford institution booking.
↗Show the person supporting the activity in relation to the group. Seeing where help comes from can make an unfamiliar session feel easier to understand.
↗Leave room for the task itself: the materials, tools and decisions. An image of people holding up a finished item tells a different story from one showing how they reached it.
↗Look for moments when participants compare ideas or work something out together. The picture needs to be faithful to the session, not an invented demonstration of its results.
PHOTOGRAPHY / WITHOUT TAKING OVER
Before arriving, we ask the facilitator to identify natural pauses, sensitive activities and positions where a photographer can work without blocking a demonstration. The activity's supervision and safety remain with the organisation. If an important picture would require stopping the group, agree that separately rather than springing it on the teacher.
For adult training, community workshops or education programmes in Oxford, the same principle applies: the photograph should serve the communication brief without taking over the learning. A separate demonstration with willing participants may be a better option when the real session cannot accommodate photography.
↗FACILITATOR / TUTOR / TEAM
A facilitator portrait can sit beside a course description, booking page or speaker biography. Plan those pictures outside the teaching time where possible. That lets the person concentrate on the portrait and gives the group an uninterrupted session.
The Hive Kids staff portrait here was made for its website. For your own team, agree whether each portrait needs the same background and framing or whether individual roles call for different settings. Staff photography is a separate item in the brief, not something we assume can happen between activities.
Your organiser should settle participation and image-use arrangements, including any restrictions involving children or vulnerable participants. Give us one contact who can identify the agreed boundaries on the day.
Book the specific room or activity area and check the organisation's permission process. Access to an Oxford venue or campus is not assumed, and a familiar building does not imply an institutional relationship.
Identify who will review the selection, what should not be shown and the intended channels. Avoid describing a photograph as proof of an educational outcome that the image cannot establish.

Session photography, facilitator portraits and any separate demonstrations are scoped individually. Include briefing, access and participant arrangements when planning the time. We agree image selection and additional finishing according to the actual outputs required.
We are based near Sudbury in Suffolk and travel to Oxford for agreed bookings. Supply the precise building, access contact and session timetable; an institutional name alone is not enough to plan arrival. We do not claim an Oxford office or a university appointment.
Within 25 driving miles of the quoted base, travel is £0.55 per round-trip mile. Beyond that, mileage is waived and estimated round-trip driving time is charged at £49 per hour. Parking, tolls and other necessary travel costs are agreed separately.
PLANNING YOUR SHOOT
Yes, where the organiser and facilitator have agreed how photography fits. We discuss positions, quiet moments and restrictions first. Activities that cannot be photographed unobtrusively may need a separate demonstration.
The organisation needs to settle the arrangements with its participants and tell us the permitted uses and restrictions. We agree how those instructions will be communicated and followed during photography; we do not assume everyone in the room is available for publicity.
Yes, as a planned part of the booking. Supply the number of people, intended uses and any existing portrait style to match. We can allocate a separate portrait window around their teaching commitments.
This page does not claim a University of Oxford commission. The displayed learning and portrait photographs were commissioned by Hive Kids and are identified as wider-portfolio examples.
Send the access requirements and photography restrictions before booking. We can assess the brief with your contact, but permission, supervision and any required induction must be arranged with the organisation controlling the space.
Explain that purpose in the brief and make sure the participant arrangements cover it. The organisation should check that the selected photographs still represent the future course accurately, especially if the format, equipment or people have changed.
