THE BRIEF
MORE THAN A PERFORMANCE RECORDING
The Maxy Boy project was filmed at Show Me Love in Basildon as a vlog-style account of a live appearance. Rather than cutting together only the time on stage, we followed the wider experience: arriving at the venue, conversations around the event, the moments before the set and the reaction once the performance began.
That approach gives the finished video a beginning, middle and end. Viewers meet the artist away from the spotlight, move with him towards the stage and experience the change in energy as the crowd and production take over.
The result sits between event videography, artist content and a live music film—useful as a longer-form vlog and as a source of short performance-led moments for social media.

THE APPROACH
SOLO COVERAGE THAT STAYS CLOSE
One videographer covered the project, moving between observational vlog footage and the live set. A small footprint made it easier to stay near the artist, react to spontaneous conversations and move through the venue without turning natural moments into formal setups.
For the performance, the priority was variety without losing continuity. Tight images captured expression and delivery, wider angles showed the stage design, and audience-facing views connected the artist with the people in the room.
Live event videography depends on anticipating changes rather than asking for repeats. Lighting, movement and crowd positions shift constantly, so each angle has to add something useful while the performance continues.
THE LIVE LOOK
WORKING WITH LIGHT, HAZE AND MOVEMENT
The Show Me Love stage was saturated with pink, red and violet light, with a large Maxy Boy graphic creating a strong visual signature behind the performance. We used that colour as part of the film rather than trying to neutralise it.
Changing exposure and backlight are part of filming live music. The camera needs to protect the performer’s face while retaining enough of the screens, beams and haze to preserve what the room actually felt like.
Cut against quieter arrival and backstage footage, the stage sequences feel like a release of energy. That contrast is what makes the vlog structure work: the audience experiences the build-up as well as the headline moment.
