We first filmed Jo and Andy’s wedding in 2019: a ceremony in Colchester, a journey down the River Stour and a reception at Le Talbooth. When Jo’s 40th birthday came around, it was a pleasure to return for another milestone with a long-term client.

This time, photography and film tell the story together. Drinks outside, hugs on the terrace, portraits beside the river and a meal surrounded by family and friends. The photographs keep the individual expressions; the film brings back the movement and atmosphere around them.

Le Talbooth’s riverside setting in Dedham gives a birthday celebration its own backdrop: the bridge, the water, the timber-framed restaurant and the terrace where everybody gathers. But the people remain the centre of the story.

Our selection moves between relaxed group portraits and the moments around them: a greeting, a laugh, children joining in and conversations across the table. That balance is what we look for as a Colchester photographer covering a personal celebration—not just a record of how the room looked, but who was there and how it felt to be together.
