BUSINESS PHOTOGRAPHY / THE PEOPLE

Who should a customer recognise?

A partner introducing a specialist service, a new colleague joining the team and a director speaking at a company occasion each need a different photograph. Giving everyone the same stiff pose can flatten those differences. Start with the role that each person plays in your organisation and the impression their photograph should convey.

For a Chelmsford team, that might mean a consistent set of profile portraits alongside more relaxed photographs of colleagues together. We agree the balance with the person responsible for the website or communications, so the collection represents the organisation as well as its most visible individuals.

PROFILES / RELATIONSHIPS / OCCASIONS

Individual people. A recognisable team.

This Hive Kids staff portrait was commissioned for the organisation’s website. The face is clear, the expression feels approachable and the outdoor background gives the person some breathing room. The portrait is part of our wider work with Hive Kids.

When several people need profiles, we decide which elements should stay consistent and where personality can come through. Background, camera height and room for the final crop can be planned together without asking every contributor to look identical.

01

The professional profile

An individual who gives advice, leads a department or represents your organisation needs an image that remains readable at the size it will appear. Bring the profile-page layout, including any circular or square crop.

02

The working relationship

A photograph of two colleagues can explain a partnership more naturally than separate portraits. Choose a genuine activity and check what will be visible on desks, screens and documents.

03

The shared occasion

A staff gathering gives the organisation a more informal face. Agree the group combinations you need for internal communications, while leaving room for expressions and exchanges that happen between them.

CHELMSFORD CONNECTION / OPUL LIFE

An Essex business, seen beyond the office.

For Opul Life, photography formed part of a larger corporate production for the Chelmsford-based business. Its outreach programme included visits in Chelmsford and Colchester, with a photographic library created for the company’s communications.

The useful question for your own brief is which settings help someone understand your people. A partner’s profile, colleagues meeting customers and a team occasion perform different jobs. Give each a place in the photography schedule rather than expecting one group photograph to explain everything.

FROM CONTRIBUTOR LIST TO FINISHED COLLECTION

Plan the collection around the contributors.

One named organiser can make a substantial difference to a team session. These decisions help us use each person’s time well and leave the business with an easier collection to manage.

  1. Build the contributor list

List names, roles and the photographs each person needs. Separate essential profiles from optional group combinations. Check who is available on the same date and identify a deputy who can help keep the session moving.

  2. Agree how people take part

Let contributors know where their photographs may appear. Discuss anyone who prefers not to feature and arrange the group or working scenes accordingly. For customer-facing activity, agree participants and permission with the organiser before the visit.

  3. Choose with the collection in view

A strong individual portrait still has to sit beside its colleagues. Agree who will review the selection, check names and job titles, and look at expression, framing and balance across the set before finishing is approved.

  4. Make the next update easier

If the collection will grow as people join, keep a reference of the agreed framing and background. Request the file names and output versions your team needs, so a future editor can identify the right person and photograph without starting again.

CHELMSFORD / ON LOCATION

Your Chelmsford team. Our cameras on location.

We come to your office, business premises or agreed venue from our established bases in Great Horkesley, Colchester, and Great Cornard near Sudbury. Share the precise address and contributor timetable. A single workplace visit and a session split between several addresses need different allowances for access, setup and travel.

Within 25 driving miles of the quoted base, travel is £0.55 per round-trip mile. Beyond that, mileage is waived and estimated round-trip driving time is charged at £49 per hour. Parking, tolls and other necessary travel costs are agreed separately.

BEFORE THE BOOKING

Questions worth asking.

Can one Chelmsford session cover several partners or departments?

Yes. Give us a contributor list and the kinds of photographs each person needs. We can estimate a schedule for individual profiles, smaller teams and agreed working scenes, including the setup changes between them.

How do we include a colleague who does not want to be photographed?

Tell the organiser before the visit so participation can be planned respectfully. We can arrange the composition and running order around the people who have agreed to take part, without putting somebody on the spot during a group photograph.

Can we add a new starter to the collection later?

We can scope a later session using the original brief and reference photographs. The same location, lighting and framing help us aim for a compatible result. Changes to the premises or the contributor’s availability may affect the approach.

Which photographs on this page were made in Chelmsford?

The photographs shown are wider portfolio examples: a Hive Kids staff portrait and Platinum Cleaning’s summer party in Ipswich. The separately linked Opul Life case study documents a combined photography and film brief with outreach in Chelmsford and Colchester. We do not assign an unverified Chelmsford venue to an individual image.

Should we book a portrait session or event coverage?

Choose portraits when specific people and consistent profiles are the priority. Choose event coverage when you need the people and activity of a real occasion. A brief can include both, but formal portraits need a suitable setting and time away from the event’s other commitments.

How many finished photographs will we receive?

We agree the selection, finishing and quantity for your contributor list and intended uses. Detailed retouching, extra crop versions and third-party publication requirements should be included in the quote. There is no fixed image allowance inferred from another client’s gallery.
