01 / THE PICTURE'S PURPOSE
The team before the result
A close huddle puts the players together before the story becomes a score. It can introduce the squad or open an account of the day without relying on a posed lineup.

PHOTOGRAPHY / CHELTENHAM
Photographs that let a team tell its own story: the concentration before play, the effort on the pitch and the people celebrating afterwards.

PHOTOGRAPHS WITH A PURPOSE
A match report needs different pictures from a squad announcement or a sponsor thank-you. Our Cheltenham photography brief starts with those uses, so the final selection contains more than repeated frames of the same passage of play.
The photographs here were commissioned for TR7 at Cheltenham Racecourse. They show the team together, an individual in action and the event around them. They are dedicated still photographs, not frames extracted from the accompanying film.
CHELTENHAM / THE TR7 PHOTOGRAPHS
A useful delivery has variety without losing its subject. These TR7 pictures illustrate the choices behind an event selection: identity, concentration, action, outcome and atmosphere.

↗02 / THE PICTURE'S PURPOSE
A conversion attempt isolates one part of the match. Pictures like this give the editor a different rhythm from a group frame and can support a player-focused post.
↗03 / THE PICTURE'S PURPOSE
Two players walking together are part of the day too. A selection needs quieter moments so it does not read as a sequence of disconnected tackles.
↗04 / THE PICTURE'S PURPOSE
The group celebration records the team with its medals. When a result matters to the brief, keep time and access available after the final whistle.
↗05 / THE PICTURE'S PURPOSE
Festival-goers near the fairground put the rugby into a wider setting. This gives an organiser or team another way to describe the experience.
Identify the squad, key people and the result you expect to report. We cannot predict the match, but we can agree who the photographer follows.
Tell us about wide banners, portrait features and caption requirements. Leave room in the brief for clean compositions and accurate identification.
List the people, kit and agreed partner moments that need coverage. Confirm the intended use rather than assume every brand in a picture is a client.
Decide how much time goes to supporters, facilities and atmosphere. Wider coverage competes with time spent following one team.
Pitch-side access, safe shooting areas and event credentials come from the organiser. We need an authorised contact and a clear brief about teams or participants who should not be photographed. A previous commission at the racecourse does not provide access to your event.
For groups, juniors or sensitive settings, discuss the organiser’s consent arrangements and any restrictions before booking. We plan around those instructions; a camera at a public event is not a substitute for knowing your intended use of the pictures.
Agree the expected image selection, retouching, file sizes and delivery timing in the quote. If an editor needs a small set urgently, say so before the event so transfer time and priorities can be planned. We do not promise a fixed picture count or same-day turnaround without an agreed scope.

For a Cheltenham event, send the fixture list or running order, the team or activity to follow and the first publication deadline. Those details determine coverage time more usefully than the overall event duration alone.
Our team travels from Suffolk and Essex. The examples on this page were photographed in Cheltenham; we do not claim a Cheltenham studio. A business portrait or commercial brief elsewhere in town can be discussed separately from pitch-side event coverage.
Within 25 driving miles of the quoted base, travel is £0.55 per round-trip mile. Beyond that, mileage is waived and estimated round-trip driving time is charged at £49 per hour. Parking, tolls and other necessary travel costs are agreed separately.
PLANNING YOUR SHOOT
Yes. All five featured TR7 photographs come from our commissioned coverage at Cheltenham Racecourse. The case study shows the wider project, including its separate video deliverable.
That needs a specific coverage plan. Tell us the number of teams, pitches and simultaneous fixtures. One photographer following one squad cannot guarantee a usable image of every participant across an entire tournament.
The delivery is an agreed edited selection, rather than an automatic transfer of every exposure. We discuss the required variety and uses in advance; repeated frames and unsuccessful images do not make a more useful collection.
We need an accurate team list or someone who can confirm names. We can agree a caption workflow, but will not guess identities from appearance or shirt numbers without your reference.
Tell us which partners need the pictures and how they intend to use them. We set out the agreed usage in the booking so onward supply is understood before publication.
Yes, with an agreed gathering time and location. Put the portrait into the schedule and nominate someone who can assemble the group, particularly if players leave at different times.
Request an early selection when briefing us. It may need a dedicated break, a reliable transfer connection or additional support. Delivery during play is not automatically included in general event coverage.
Yes. We agree the stills and film requirements separately, then plan crew and timing together. The Cheltenham video page explains the portrait highlight approach; its filming brief is different from a photographic image list.
