An event can produce hours of activity and still leave a film without a clear subject. Before our cameras arrive in Cheltenham, we decide whose experience the edit follows: a team competing, a guest attending or an organiser introducing the occasion.
For TR7 at Cheltenham Racecourse, that meant a portrait highlight shaped around the rugby team. The format affected where we stood, how we followed movement and what could stay readable in a narrow frame. A landscape recording cropped afterwards would have been a different brief.
The main example is TR7’s Cheltenham 7s highlight, filmed at Cheltenham Racecourse. The Platinum Cleaning film is an Ipswich event commission, shown separately for comparison. We identify the client and shooting location for each.
CHELTENHAM RACECOURSE / COMMISSIONED BY TR7
A portrait film with movement in mind.
TR7’s Cheltenham 7s booking brought us to Cheltenham Racecourse. The highlight was designed for portrait viewing, with match action and slower moments building the team’s story. The client was The Rugby 7s; the venue identifies where we filmed, rather than implying a commission from the racecourse.
The Platinum Cleaning summer event in Ipswich puts the gathering ahead of competition. It is a useful contrast to the TR7 film: the intended audience and occasion change the pace and the scenes that matter. This is representative event work elsewhere, not another Cheltenham production.
Multiple pitches or simultaneous activities create a choice, not extra camera operators. We establish the main team, sessions or event spaces in advance and agree what takes priority if timings overlap. A highlight brief should be honest about the moments the crew can reach.
The organiser controls filming access; the team or business commissioning the film may not control the whole venue. Confirm the contact responsible for credentials, pitch-side positions, contributor permissions and any aerial restrictions. Our shoot at Cheltenham Racecourse does not grant automatic access for a future event.
Choose the person, team or event experience that gives the edit direction. Decide who will watch and what they should take away.
02
Design the format
Agree portrait or landscape delivery, film length and any additional versions. These choices shape the coverage rather than wait until the edit.
03
Follow the available story
Work from the running order while allowing for changes. Capture anticipation and reactions as well as the main action.
04
Build and check the edit
Bring picture, sound and titles together around the agreed purpose. Confirm names, branding and approved wording before the final export.

USEFUL ANSWERS
Before your Cheltenham shoot.
Practical details about planning, evidence, pricing and deliverables.
Have you filmed at Cheltenham Racecourse?+
Yes. TR7 commissioned our coverage at Cheltenham 7s, held at Cheltenham Racecourse. The portrait highlight is shown on this page. We were working for The Rugby 7s, rather than claiming the venue as our client.
Can the highlight include every match in full?+
A highlight and full-match recordings are different deliverables. Complete coverage needs suitable continuous recording positions, crew, storage and editing time. We agree that scope separately instead of implying a short promotional booking includes it.
Why decide portrait or landscape before filming?+
The shape of the frame affects subject distance, movement and where another player or speaker can fit. We can plan more than one format, but a crop alone cannot guarantee that every landscape shot will work vertically.
What happens when the event timetable changes?+
Give us a live contact and identify the essential moments in advance. We can adjust positions and priorities on the day, but simultaneous activity may require additional crew or a choice about what matters most.
SHOW MORE QUESTIONSSHOW FEWER QUESTIONS
Can you cover a team and its sponsor?+
Yes. Identify the sponsor’s required people, visible branding and intended uses before filming. A dedicated conversation or demonstration may need a scheduled slot rather than relying entirely on incidental event footage.
Are photographs included with the video?+
Photography can be booked alongside the film with its own coverage and delivery brief. Our TR7 Cheltenham commission included commissioned stills. See the Cheltenham photography page for examples and a separate explanation of that service.
Do you provide the unedited footage?+
Only when included in the agreed delivery. A footage library needs its own scope, file handling and usage arrangements. It should not be assumed to accompany every finished highlight.
Are you a Cheltenham-based production company?+
We travel from our Suffolk and Essex bases. The local evidence here is a real Cheltenham commission, not a claim that we have an office in town. Travel is included transparently in the quotation.
How much does Cheltenham video production cost?+
Filming starts at £249 for the first on-location hour per operator and £99 for each additional hour. Editing is £49 per hour. We quote the complete scope, including preparation, travel and any specialist requirements. No VAT is currently added to our prices.
How is travel charged?+
For bookings within 25 driving miles of our base, travel is £0.55 per round-trip mile. Beyond that distance, travel is £49 per hour of estimated round-trip driving time, with mileage waived. Parking, tolls and accommodation are separate where required.
