THE BRIEF

DOCUMENTING THE PARTNERSHIP

Root Power commissioned The Camera Guys to create a film about its partnership with South Essex Wildlife Hospital in Orsett, Essex.

Through the Community Wealth Fund associated with Root Power’s Coryton Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), the hospital receives financial support towards the work it carries out rescuing, treating, rehabilitating and releasing sick and injured wildlife.

The purpose of the film was straightforward: show where that support goes and introduce people to the work taking place at the hospital. Rather than making the funding itself the whole story, we wanted the staff, animals and day-to-day work at SEWH to demonstrate its impact naturally.

THE PRODUCTION

FILMING AT SOUTH ESSEX WILDLIFE HOSPITAL

We spent the day working around the South Essex Wildlife Hospital team while they carried on with the job they do every day. That gave us plenty to film without needing to manufacture scenes purely for the camera.

We captured the staff, animals, treatment areas and general activity around the hospital, while spending time with the team and learning more about what goes into caring for wildlife before it can eventually be released.

It was also simply a really enjoyable shoot. We got to meet the people behind the charity, interact with some of the animals and get a much better understanding of the work taking place there. That made it considerably easier to tell the story properly rather than treating SEWH as just another filming location.

ONE DAY. MULTIPLE STORIES.

TWO PROJECTS. ONE FILMING DAY.

The wildlife hospital wasn’t the only Root Power project we filmed that day. The same booking also took us to Root Power’s Tillingdown site, allowing us to capture content for two very different stories within one production schedule.

For clients with several sites, teams or projects to cover, this can make a lot of sense. With some planning beforehand, we can often use the same crew and filming day to build content for several separate films rather than treating every piece of content as an entirely separate production.

In this case it meant moving from an energy project to a wildlife hospital in the same day — very different environments, but both part of the wider story Root Power wanted to tell.
