TAPE TO DIGITAL

What a transfer gives back.

Tape loses colour and sharpness every year it sits in a drawer. A careful transfer stops the decline; clean-up and stabilisation can bring back more than you expect.

  1. VHS, S-VHS, VHS-CThe family and wedding standard of the 80s and 90s
  2. Video8, Hi8, Digital8Camcorder tapes, often the only copy of a childhood
  3. MiniDV, DVCAMLate-90s and 2000s camcorders and early professional work
  4. Betacam SPBroadcast and corporate archives
  5. DVD and MiniDVDDiscs that no longer play are rescued to files

WHY IT MATTERS

A file can be copied. A tape cannot be rescued twice.

Tapes shed, stretch and grow mould; players are harder to find every year. Digitising now means the film survives, and once it is a file it can be shared with family, backed up and edited into something people will actually sit down and watch.

We handle each tape individually, check it for damage before playing, and return everything with the files.

HOW WE WORK

Four steps from drawer to screen.

  1. 01

    Inspect

Each tape is checked for mould and damage and cleaned if needed before it goes near a player.

  2. 02

    Transfer

Played on serviced decks and captured at full quality, with time-base correction for stable pictures.

  3. 03

    Improve

Optional colour correction, noise reduction, stabilisation and audio clean-up.

  4. 04

    Deliver

MP4 files to share, a high-quality master to keep, and chapters or an edited highlights film if you would like one.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Your questions,
answered.

Which formats can you transfer?

VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, Video8, Hi8, Digital8, MiniDV, DVCAM and Betacam SP, plus DVDs and MiniDVDs. Ask about anything else.

How do I get the tapes to you?

Drop them at our Suffolk studio, or send them tracked and insured. We can arrange collection for larger collections.

Can you make a watchable film out of hours of tape?

Yes. See wedding and family video editing: we cut the best moments into a film and keep the full transfer as well.

What quality will I get?

As good as the tape allows. VHS is standard definition; we capture every bit of it and can upscale gently for modern screens.

Where do you provide this service?

We are Suffolk-based and work across Essex, London and the UK. Post-production is handled at our studio, so you can send material from anywhere in the country.

How long does it take?

Transfers run in real time, so a two-hour tape takes two hours to capture plus checking. Most collections are back within two to three weeks.
