PHOTOGRAPHY / ST ALBANS

St Albans PhotographerFor the stage, the venue and the team.

St Albans has a busy calendar of theatre, music, food festivals and community events, and the venues and companies behind them need photographs that sell the next show and thank the people who made this one happen. We plan the photography around the running order.

PHOTOGRAPHS WITH A PURPOSE

Real performances. Planned coverage.

A theatre company needs production photographs for its next season brochure. A festival needs pictures of the crowd, the stalls and the sponsors. A firm in the city centre needs portraits that match across its website. Each brief has its own timetable: a dress rehearsal, a set-up window or a lunchtime when everyone is in the office.

We have photographed in St Albans before: our Jellyshotz commission covered the Foodies Festival there with a photographer and a videographer. The other photographs on this page come from our wider portfolio and are labelled with the client and place where they were taken.

CAST, STAFF AND TEAM PORTRAITS

Portraits that look like they belong together.

These Hive Kids staff portraits were photographed outdoors with the same setting and gentle light for every person. For a St Albans theatre company, school or office we would choose one setting and keep it consistent, so a programme, a cast list or a team page looks like one set.

We agree the background, crop and style with you before the session, and keep each portrait quick so people can get back to rehearsal or work.

Theatre and performance

Agree in advanceWhether we photograph the dress rehearsal or a live show, where we can stand, flash rules and the scenes that matter most for publicity.

Capture on the dayThe big moments, the ensemble and close shots of the principals, without distracting the cast or the audience.

Festivals and outdoor events

Agree in advanceThe running order, the stalls, sponsors and performers you need, and any people who must not appear.

Capture on the dayThe atmosphere, the crowd, the products and the people enjoying them, through the whole day.

Staff and team portraits

Agree in advanceThe background, crop and style that suit your website, programme or LinkedIn.

Capture on the dayA relaxed, natural expression from each person, checked on screen as we go.

THEATRE / CONCERTS / FESTIVALS

Sell the next show with this one.

Performance photographs work hardest after the curtain comes down: in the next brochure, on social media and on the box-office page. We photograph the wide stage pictures that show the production and the closer moments that show the characters.

The Wizard of Oz photographs here were taken for Polkadot Pantomimes at the Mercury Theatre in Colchester. They are examples of our performance photography, not photographs taken in St Albans.

Planning a shoot in St Albans.

  1. Before the day

Send the venue, the timetable and a short list of the photographs you need. For a show, tell us whether we are photographing a dress rehearsal or a performance, and any flash or camera rules.

  2. On the day

We work quietly from agreed positions, follow the venue's rules and check early frames with your contact so the approach is right before we carry on.

  3. After the day

We deliver an edited selection, and can send a quick set of publicity images first if you need them for social media or the press.

PLANNING YOUR SHOOT

The practical details.

Have you photographed in St Albans before?

Yes. Our Jellyshotz commission included the Foodies Festival in St Albans, with a photographer and a videographer at the event. The theatre and portrait photographs on this page were taken elsewhere and are labelled with where they were taken.

Can you photograph a theatre production or concert?

Yes. We can photograph a dress rehearsal, where we can move more freely and use more positions, or a live performance from agreed spots without flash. We agree the key scenes and any camera rules with the company and the venue first.

Can you photograph a festival or outdoor event?

Yes. We plan coverage around the running order and photograph the atmosphere, stalls, sponsors, performers and visitors, and can deliver a quick selection on the day or the morning after for social media.

Can you photograph staff or cast portraits?

Yes. We set up one consistent background and light so every portrait matches, and keep each session short. They work for team pages, programmes, cast lists and LinkedIn.

Are the photographs on this page from St Albans?

No. The theatre photographs are from Polkadot Pantomimes at the Mercury Theatre in Colchester, and the portraits are from our Hive Kids commission. Our St Albans work so far is the Jellyshotz festival coverage.

How much does a photographer in St Albans cost?

Our photography rates start at £249 for the first hour per photographer and £99 for each additional hour, with retouching at £49 per hour where needed. Travel from our Sudbury base is charged on driving time for St Albans, and no VAT is currently added.

Can you film at the same time?

Yes. A photographer and a videographer can cover the same show, festival or event, giving you photographs and films from one booking.
