BUSINESS PORTRAITS / ON LOCATION

You know your business. Let customers see it.

A customer may meet you online long before they walk through the door. An owner portrait makes that introduction personal. A photograph of a consultation, a finished product or a well-used workspace explains what you actually do. For an independent business, those details can say far more than another anonymous office picture.

We start with the people you want customers to recognise, then work out how to photograph them comfortably in their own setting. A short session might concentrate on one owner. A broader visit could include colleagues, the premises and a few carefully prepared working scenes.

THE PEOPLE YOUR CUSTOMERS MEET

Good portraits begin before the shutter.

For Hive Kids, the photography brief included staff headshots for the organisation’s website. These two commissioned portraits show a relaxed outdoor approach, with attention on the person and a background that stays quiet.

The Hive Kids commission forms part of our wider portfolio. For a session at your Sudbury business, we discuss whether the surroundings help explain your role or whether a simpler background will make the introduction clearer.

PREPARING FOR YOUR SESSION

A useful hour starts with a little preparation.

You do not need to turn your workplace into a studio. A few decisions make the session easier for everyone involved.

  1. Choose a quiet corner

Send a phone photograph of the room or work area before the visit. We can discuss window direction, background clutter and space for lighting without guessing how the premises will look.

  2. Give people breathing room

Book individual slots rather than bringing the whole team away from work at once. Let colleagues know what to wear, where to meet and who will help organise the next person.

  3. Prepare a real task

For photographs at work, choose an activity that can be repeated safely. Clear customer information, check screens and gather the tools or products that should be visible before we arrive.

BEYOND THE HEADSHOT

Put the portrait in context.

A portrait introduces the owner; supporting details show the care behind the service. Depending on your business, that could mean hands at a workbench, a consultation space or the product a customer will take home.

The Jellyshotz photograph here is a commissioned product still from our wider work. Its deliberate light and arrangement illustrate how even a small subject can deserve its own setup. Products, premises and portraits need separate time in the brief.

BEFORE THE BOOKING

Questions worth asking.

Can you photograph a small Sudbury business rather than a large company?

Yes. A sole trader, partnership or small team can book a session around the photographs they need. Tell us who should be included and whether the priority is an owner portrait, staff profiles or the place where you work.

Where would our headshot session take place?

We can discuss your premises or an agreed location. A phone photograph of the available space helps us judge background, daylight and room for equipment. We do not advertise a walk-in portrait studio in Sudbury.

What if I feel awkward being photographed?

Tell us beforehand. We can allow time to settle into the setting, offer direction and keep the first setup simple. It helps to agree what you want the portrait to convey instead of arriving with a pose you feel you have to copy.

Can the business stay open during the photography?

Often, with a workable schedule. Arrange a contact who can bring people through and identify any customer areas that must remain available. For photographs of work in progress, agree participants and permissions before the session.

Are the example portraits from Sudbury clients?

The adult staff portraits are commissioned photographs for Hive Kids. The product stills are for Jellyshotz. They demonstrate our wider work; neither is being described as a shoot in Sudbury. Our nearby base is in Great Cornard.

Do you include detailed skin retouching in every headshot?

The quote sets out the agreed finishing. If you need detailed skin, clothing or background work, discuss it before booking so that the retouching time can be allowed for. We also agree image selection, usage and the delivery date for your particular session.
